Dublin...
January 15, 2010 - Dublin, Ireland
When I left London en route to Dublin I thought that everything that could possibly go wrong with this trip already had and I that I was in for the smoothest of trips imaginable! How very wrong I was. To back track a little for those of you who aren’t aware, I was due to leave London a 11:05 on the 12th. At about 10:30 the evening before I had a text from AerLingus stating that due to technical difficulties they had cancelled the flight, but that I could rebook by going to the AerLingus...

Coole Park
July 12, 2009 - Galway, Ireland
Mom mentioned last night that I hadn't included Coole Park in the travel blog. It was near the beginning of the trip and I didn't quite understand how everything worked yet. Also, I was working on a time limit in a pub in Galway to get that part of the trip done and freaked under the pressure:) Anyway, Coole Park was very beautiful and should not be left out so I'm posting it now. Coole Park was once the home of Lady Augusta Gregory, dramatist, folklorist and co-founder of the Abbey...

Afterword
July 8, 2009 - Shannon, Ireland
So here we sit at Shannon Airport. We bid farewell to our wonderful car "Opel" (General Motors) and "Gloria" our faithful GPS. Our flight home has been delayed by three hours so our current time of arrival home is about 2:00am tomorrow morning:) This means we got up a 6:30 am Irish time on July 8 and will probably make it home at 10:00 am Irish time tomorrow. Whew! It's worth it though. We are currently surrounded by hundreds of US Army Airborne soldiers. Guess we'll be safe! ...

Kinsale to Cashel
July 4, 2009 - Cashel, Ireland
From Kinsale we headed for Cobh. Cobh is the place where many of the Irish left for America during and after the famine in the mid 1800's. It is also the last place the Titanic put in to port and the nearest port to where the Lusitania was sunk by the Germans. There is an informative museum there that explains all these events quite well. Also, there was information on the ships that took prisoners to Australia. Most of them were political prisoners. Travel conditions for both the...

Kinsale/Blarney
July 4, 2009 - Galway, Ireland
At last, a bright sunshiny day! Our first stop, after another wonderful Irish breakfast, was James Fort. This fort is pretty much in ruins, but Paul was anxious to see it so we trekked up the hill and walked around the crumbling walls. We couldn't go inside so it was hard to see how the fort had been laid out. Though the fort was a bit disappointing, the views of Kinsale harbor were quite nice. We could also see Charles Fort, our next destination, across the bay. It looked much more...
