Off to Galway
October 4, 2013 - Galway, Ireland
In the morning we hopped aboard the bus once more and under the steady hand of Tom, our driver, we headed west. Our first stop was Clonmacnoise, a monastic settlement founded in 545AD. Magnificant ruins and a great history lesson by our guide. The drive to Clonmacnoise ws on one lane roads with two-way traffic. Great job Tom! Driving through the midlands we passed the bogs where turf (peat) was being harvested. Then lunch at a small town where movie director John Houston once stayed. Then...

We had a light travel day today--only from Westport around to Galway. Took the rest of the day walking around Galway--a very interesting city. Smaller and more varied than Dublin, less thematic character, yet in some ways more comfortable. The city center is bustling and has lots of pedestrian malls (though that changes from time to time, so you still need to pay attention when walking). We had dinner at a small restaurant called The King's Head, which also has a stage for musicians at night....

Ok sorry I am a bit late on all of these entries but we barely have time to see all the sights, let alone sit down at a computer and type.  Ill give a brief rundown. The flight went well...no problems, no weirdos, AND every seat had its own TV.....with free movies and tv shows......and guess what- jon and kate plus 8 was one of the choices.  You can guess what I was watching..... On our first day, we went to the Temple Bar District...wandered around, and went to THE temple bar...

Aran Islands
February 23, 2009 - Galway, Ireland
After visiting Dublin, I made my way to Cork and visited a couple friends for a day and a half. Now, I'm in Galway, which is my last stop before heading back to Dublin to fly to London. Today I went to the Aran islands, Inis Mor to be exact, home of what is said to be the oldest fort in Europe. It sits upon these amazing cliffs. Absolutely phenomonal. I'd say one of my favourite places visited during this trip. Tomorrow, I visit the Cliffs of Moher for the big 2-5! Good times! cu

Met up with a certain fiery red head. Jackie shows me some of the very walkable city. Hostel Pub Crawl, on which I'm almost certain I made a fool of myself after four too many Guinness. Hung over wandering...got wet with a mixture of horizontal rain and sea spray. Jackie fills me in a bit about Ireland: the nation's wealth is very recent, Jackie's mom was born in a farm house with mud floor (apparently not uncommon at the time), the average house currently costs 500,000 euro (that's...
