In the Chianti region ....
June 10, 2014 - Greve in Chianti, Italy
We love the Chianti region and tend to drive around, looking for little undiscovered corners and, of course, great food and wine.  However, one day we ventured to the Val D'orcia area near Sienna searching for a certain little church sitting between two cypresses that has become a sought after photo. We found the "Cappella" but it was quite a distance from the road and appeared to be sitting in the middle of a field with no roads leading to it.   We were determined to find a way to...

On the way to the Chianti region with Brigit
June 6, 2014 - Greve in Chianti, Italy
After staying in Florence, just enough to deal with the initial jet-lag, we rented a car and headed out to Poggio Asciutto to relax and to fully adjust to the local lifestyle.  Usually, it is just Luigi and Nancy, but this time we had Brigit with us.  We had no idea she was going to be coming for the ride, and we definitely did not ask for her, but there she was.  She spoke with a slightly accented (British that is), sexy voice, not that pushy, but coming across as she meant...

A week in Poggio Asciutto
May 19, 2013 - Greve in Chianti, Italy
(by clicking on the pictures you can see a larger image) The Agritourism "Poggio Asciutto" is owned by Massimo, Eva and their daughter Olivia, who was barely 5 years old when we began coming here (now she is almost 10). Clearly we love it and use it as a base for our explorations and our continuous discovery of Tuscany. Our first day here, second day in Italy, was a relaxing one, it included a trip to Greve in Chianti, to the Saturday market where we visited our usual vendors (Fulvio, the...

Sharing Chianti with Friends
October 2, 2011 - Greve in Chianti, Italy
The best part of returning to vacation accommodations that you love is reconnecting with the area and the people. We have just spent the last 6 days at our adopted home in Tuscany, Agriturismo Poggio Asciutto. The owners Eva, Massimo and little Olivia are like family and once again we were like the bad relatives, arriving late (at mealtime!) and joining their guests in the dining room.  At least we had brought our own pizzas.Let me back up…to Elba. Since we were uncharacteristically early...

Castles and wine
October 20, 2010 - Greve in Chianti, Italy
Almost a week has flown by since our last post so where do I begin? Since we love this area, we have returned many times to our favourite caffe' for the "traditional" morning cappuccino and chocolate brioche. Walking through Piazza Matteotti in Greve in Chianti is also a favourite and by now we almost feel like a local... if only I could learn the language. Speaking of learning the language. I have received an email from the language school in Orvieto. They have accepted me as a student...
