Day 23 - Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Pisa
July 19, 2012 - Pisa, Italy
Today was probably the best day of my trip so far. I splurged and bought a full day 90 euro tour to Siena, San Gimignano and Pisa. Again, the weather was hot and the sky was clear. The perfect day to visit the vineyards if you ask me. The day started at 6:30am. I had to get up before everyone else did so that I could get first dibs on the bathroom and shower. (A bunch of people in my room had planned to be up at 7am so I got a head start). I had to sleep on the top bunk so worked my way...

Leaning Tower of Pisa
May 7, 2011 - Pisa, Italy
We left Bogliasco at 10:00 am today on the way to Pisa which is only about 150 km away. After about an hour we came out of the foothills of the Alps and came down onto much flatter coastal planes. By noon we were entering Pisa and almost immediately we could see the tower jutting up near the outskirts of the city. As we found a parking spot we had our first experience with the protection racket that I have been anticipating. A very nice street merchant directed us to a parking spot, told us...

Pisa, Italy: Lean with it, Rock with it.
March 30, 2011 - Pisa, Italy
As I was briefly getting to know some girls from Ireland in my hostel the night before, while getting ready to have dinner, they were looking for a place to eat. I told them about how this old guy at the grocery store had just advised me to eat at trattorias rather than restauranunts because they were cheaper and had great food (he also asked if I wanted to go out with him and kissed me repeatedly on the cheek -____- after saying ' bella' to which I just said 'arivaderci?!!').   My point is,...

Pisa, Florence and outlet shopping
November 28, 2009 - Pisa, Italy
Sad at having to leave Venice we went to the train station to get our tickets to Pisa. Over we walked to the ticket machine and tried to buy a ticket to Pisa. No tickets to Pisa. What the hell. So Maria lined up and asked for "due biglietti a Pisa, per favore". This was at 11:37am. Tickets in hand we thought we had an hour. Lauren walks off to go shopping, Maria looks at the tickets. Partite: 11:45. What the hell. Maria lines up again and argues with the ticket man. Maria:...

June 28, 2009 - Pisa, Italy
Another day, another train journey! This time a day trip to Pisa, of leaning tower fame. By now we were pros with the ticket machines, and the strange yellow boxes that must be used to “validate” every ticket by stamping it with the date and time. And once again the price seemed quite reasonable, and the trains were running like clockwork. We were pleasantly surprised to find Pisa a very pretty and alluring town. On our way to the tower we enjoyed river views as we crossed the Ponte di...
