Wednesday 15th April damp, cloudy This morning we visited Kinkakuji, the temple of the Gold Pavilion as well as the Heian Shrine and Garden followed by a visit to Nijo Castle built in 1603 as the official residence of Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu. It is famous for its nightingale floors (squeaky floors constructed so that no one could sneak up on the Shogun unannounced). After that it was time for a Japanese Cooking Class which was really fun.  After a day of temple overdose I headed, bright and earlym to Nara, a city a tenth of the size and less than an hour from Kyoto.  Nara, too, is known for it's similar offerings of beauty, history and...TEMPLES!  After Kyoto, I thought taking in Nara would be a walk in the park.  As it turns out, my prediction was quite literal.
