Lamenting Luang Prabang
November 25, 2011 - Luang Prabang, Laos
Some towns seem timeless. A haven where you can do as little or as much as you like.UNESCO listed Luang Prabang is once such place. Set at the confluence of the NamKhong (Mekong) and Nam Khan, it embraces its history and cultural and spiritualsignificance as Laos' former capital and a centre for novice monks. One tourism figure quoted 34 wats in the town; they definitely dominate the lay of theland, but sit quietly in the background as the town goes about its daily life. The monksand novices...

LAOS - Luang Prabang
April 2, 2011 - Luang Prabang, Laos
Sabaii dee! Hallo zaeme.

Laos - Luang Prabang
March 7, 2011 - Luang Prabang, Laos
Sabaidee, hello, from Lao PDR - Peoples Democratic Republic or Please Don't Rush, which reflects the pace of life here in Luang Prabang.  What a beautiful place this is.  We arrived six days ago and have chilled and recharged our batteries very well after Vietnam.  It is scorching here and it's been good to get back in the sun again, although during the middle of the day it is so hot I struggle, which generally means we have to find a bar for a cold Beerlao, which is well good beer and...

Monks, Markets, Elephants and Waterfalls
November 15, 2010 - Luang Prabang, Laos
I rise at 5 and meet the others. We grab a tuk tuk and head into town. This morning we are joining the locals and other travellers and tourists to give Alms to the Monks. We arrive at dawn. mats ae laid out on the street and people are sat with baskets of sticky rice, bowls of fruit, banana leaves and chocolate bars. We buy some sticky rice and chocolate bars from a vendor (oragnaised vendor, not local street vendor) and take our place on a mat amongst the others. We wear our scarves as a...

Vang Vieng to Luangprabang
November 15, 2010 - Luang Prabang, Laos
Vang Vieng to Luangprabang We rise at 8, grab pre ordered breakfast next door which arrives a little different to what we ordered. Bacon and egg snadwich, is a little suspect with noodles and chilli sauce but the tea is good. The muslie comes dry with a small dish of condensed milk :). Its a 7 hour drive through the beautiful mountains. A nauseating journey, but bearable because of the beatiful scene which unfolds all around us. Thank Goodness for the air conditioning and extra seats for...
