Day 28 - to Playa La Ropa
January 26, 2013 - Zihuatanejo, Mexico
This is our last full day in Mexico! Banana bread and fruit for breakfast in the room. I''ll have to make banana bread when we get home. Walked to Playa La Ropa again. Always a beautiful day at the beach. Found a shady table for drinks, and took out our books. Had to move our table two times because of incoming tide. Walked to the end of the beach to find the crocodiles at the lagoon, but again they were in hiding. Not even an iguana this time. Very peaceful morning. Later took...

Day 27 - to Isla Ixtapa
January 25, 2013 - Zihuatanejo, Mexico
Today was a beach day again. Took bus to Playa Linda (20p), then the boat to Isla Ixtapa. Picked up many American tourists in Ixtapa. Usually we are the only non- locals on a bus. At an intersection, a young man crawled up on the front of the bus and cleaned the windshield. Soap, brush, rag, and squeegie-- he did a good job but I didn't see him get a tip. Once on Isla Ixtapa, we stopped for cold drinks at Antonio' s. Quiet day on the island today. We took a walk on the beach....

Day 26 - to Las Gatas
January 24, 2013 - Zihuatanejo, Mexico
Breakfast in the hotel. We bought a huge pineapple at the market last night. To the lavandaria, then a hike up the big hill on the east side of town. About halfway up a stairway started. Many, many, many steps. Very tiring but a great view of city at the top. Lots of cats along the way. An afternoon boat trip to Las Gatas. Beautiful day at the beach, as always. Bought some peanuts from a vendor, very addicting. Many vendors walking the beach today, selling jewelry, beachware, candy,...

Day 25 - to La Chote and Barre de Potosi
January 23, 2013 - Zihuatanejo, Mexico
Breakfast at Dona Licha. First adventure today was the bus to La Chote (or Solidad de Marciel). This is a tiny hamlet sitting on an important archeological ruin. A plaza, ball court and 3 pyramids were discovered in 2007. You can take any bus marked Petatlan (Peta) or Acapulco. The helper on the bus took fares and hung out the bus yelling "Peta, Peta". La Chote is 40 minutes south of Zihuat. From the bus stop on Hwy 200, a gravel road goes 8km to the ruins, and another km to the village....

Day 24 - to Playa La Ropa
January 22, 2013 - Zihuatanejo, Mexico
Had our usual good breakfast at Dona Licha. Then off to the beach. Walked to Playa La Ropa, along the road on the edge of town and up a big hill by some elegant hotels and restaurants. Then down to the beach via a hotel driveway. People paddling while standing on surfboards, dogs running into the water, long- legged birds chasing the surf, parasailers, a volleyball game. Walked down the beach to the small lagoon that contains crocodiles. There is a higher wire fence along the water than...
