November 15, 2013 - Lüderitz, Namibia
Friday, 15 November From Betta we headed South towards Aus, an oasis in this arid landscape.  Up until now the landscape had been beautiful with great rocky black outcrops to the East and the huge red dunes on the Western side, while we were travellimg South on grey green plains which were full of game.  This whole area is a nature reserve so gemsbok (oryx) as well as zebra and ostrich and all the smaller mammals, like mongoose and meerkats abound.  As we headed South the red dunes were...

Koiimasis to Maltahohe to Sossusvlei
March 6, 2011 - Lüderitz, Namibia
Only 3800 kms into our journey of about 30 000kms! Heading from Aus towards Sossusvlei we pulled in at Koiimasis - an exclusive ranch with a lodge and campsite.  First stop in Luderitz was the coffee shop which beckons you as you drive in, the highlight of my day!  I downloaded mail, looked at comments on the blog and savoured a latte. So great to hear your news, please give us more the rest of you - a line or two about you on the blog or by e mail. We visited the Ghost town Kolmanskuppe taking a Canadian couple with us since they had been stranded in Luderitz for the weekend without transport. That was an interesting tour, they sure lived it up...

Keetmanshoop to Aus
February 28, 2011 - Lüderitz, Namibia
Quiver Tree Rest Camp outside Keetmanshoop may be remembered more because of it’s bugs for me than it’s Quiver trees! Never in my life have I seen such an invasion. Giant beetles, crickets, grasshoppers and of course millions of mosquitoes. The mosquito’s rose like a black mist every time you lifted something from a dark corner in the caravan.  We had an interesting second night, bug invasion of note and then a wind storm out of nowhere. I was sitting outside trying to blog but I had...
