Walvis Bay
March 15, 2011 - Swakopmund, Namibia
Gecko Camp was our next stop after Sossusvlei, we were alone there two days. Very rustic and off the beaten track! The landscapes changed dramatically from green rolling hills to the desert again. Vogelffederberg was the last bush camp (no ablutions) before Walvis Bay in the Namib-Naukluft Park. That was amazingly quiet and the dew the next morning was like drizzle in the middle of a desert.  We’ve been in Walvis Bay sometime now,  2 nights camping and we were supposed to move on to...

The Fish River Canyon to the Namib Desert, Namibia
September 10, 2010 - Swakopmund, Namibia
So Shashi motors on further north! We camped at the epic Fish River canyon, which is just HUGE! It's the first canyon either of us have ever seen, and we can both see what all the fuss is about :) From there we drove on to the Namib desert for a full (gruelling) day through the changing landscape. It's so barren out here, in some places there is just nothing but dust forever! Eventually we made it to the center, and the monster dunes of Sossusvlei... We camped again in the middle of...

Etosha!
May 26, 2010 - Swakopmund, Namibia
Now in Swakopmund on the coast of Namibia, a very German seaside town. However, it's not really sunbathing weather, it's freezing! To get here we had to drive through the desert which was very interesting, it was incredibly barren. For the past couple of nights we've been up in Etosha National Park, which was excellent. Five of us from our previous trip hired a car and borrowed a couple of tents off the tour leader from our previous trip. It was an excellent place to spot animals and we saw...

Stellenbosch and Namibia
April 30, 2009 - Swakopmund, Namibia
And my Overland tour has finally started (although I had a nightmare morning in the bank and was an hour late to meet my group on the first day, not the best first impression!). We piled onto the truck that would be our home for the next 4 months and drove off to Stellenbosch. This place is all about the wine! We visited 4 vineyards for some wine tasting and we started off trying really hard to get involved and even tried to use the terminology they'd taught us but by the end of the second...

On the home straight
April 21, 2009 - Swakopmund, Namibia
Hello again, Has been I while since I have subjected you to my wafflings which I apologise for. A combination of hectic days, long periods of driving and numerous bush camps has provided very little free time. We last said goodbye when I arrived in the late afternoon near Victoria Falls, on the Zambian/Zimbabwe border. The following morning I stuck my head out the tent to be greeted with clear blue skies, sunshine...and drizzle. In my half asleep state it took me a while to realise that the...
