Helicopters, glaciers, horses and mulled wine.
August 5, 2013 - Franz Josef, New Zealand
After the pooh pub party we made our way over to Franz Josef, famous for it's huge but rapidly melting glacier. The glacier is an absolute must do when you visit New Zealand and it is the thing I've heard people rave about the most. We were all concerned though as it's a bit hit and miss whether the tours will operate these days. A hole has appeared near the bottom of the glacier so you can no longer just hike straight onto it. A Hangover and a Glacier
March 22, 2011 - Franz Josef, New Zealand
22nd-27th March, The West Coast, South Island, NZ So, this is the crazy bit of the Kiwi Experience, where hopping on and off doesn't really happen because it's so rural and there's nothing much to do.  This means that you stay with the same people and the same driver until Queenstown, and once the many adventure activities are done for the day you have to make your own fun. I enjoy a large breakfast with cereal, fruit and yoghurt, grab my packed lunch of pasta with tuna and join the others for the short walk from the hostel to the activity centre in the centre of town. Here we...

Greenstone carving and Glaciers
February 5, 2011 - Franz Josef, New Zealand
5th Feb 2011- Greenstone and Glaciers (Barrytown to Franz Joseph) I wake early and dress as quietly as possible as the others have a long lie this am. Its a quick cup of tea and some toast before I meet the other 3. Its a grey dreary morning, but dry. We are collected in a delapitdated old car and squeeze ourselves in. From here we are driven two minutes up the road and into a property where a small gathering of wooden buildings sit on the hill over looking the bay. We are shown into a...
