Arrived!
February 1, 2010 - Managua, Nicaragua
After a 22 hour journey door to door, I arrived last night in Managua and immediately latched on to two german girls who seemed to know what they were doing.  The idea of arriving with no idea where to go next seemed exciting but I simply needed sleep.  Today it is 30 degrees... hahahahahaha....and I plan to have a look around the city and then head on to Costa Rica via bus asap.

53) El Castillo, Nicaragua
November 5, 2009 - El Castillo, Nicaragua
We ventured back into Nicaragua to visit a place called El Castillo. After crossing the Costa Rican border by boat we boarded a second boat and sped along the river for a further three hours to reach our destination. El Castillo is a small town on the huge San Juan river, (home to huge alligators and bull sharks) and it felt like being in a remote part of the Amazon with both banks covered in thick jungle and teeming with wildlife. We stayed in a wooden house on stilts that sat right over...

51) San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua
October 29, 2009 - San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua
After weighing the options of what to do next: 1. diving at the beautiful Corn Islands off Nicaragua's Caribbean coast, 2. a river cruise through the jungle or 3. surfing at the pacific coast of Nicaragua, we decided for option 3. San Juan del Sur is a popular beach town with beautiful beaches to its north and south. We hired surf boards for a day and got the shuttle service to one of the surfers beaches with smaller waves. Even those 'small' waves managed to smash us around helplessly and...

Ometepe Island, Nicaragua
October 25, 2009 - San Carlos, Nicaragua
As we can never get enough of volcanoes our next stop was on an island that is made up of two volcanoes rising out of the mighty Lake Nicaragua and which are connected by a 5km lava flow. Volcan Concepcion, the higher one of the two volcanoes is active while Volcan Maderas, covered in cloud forest, is believed to be extinct. We arrived on the southern part of the island in the pouring rain, after getting the chicken bus, followed by a taxi, a boat and finally a bumpy 2-hour bus ride across...

Little corn island
July 20, 2009 - Corn Island, Nicaragua
