September 30, 2014 - Cuzco, Peru
Hola, es wird Zeit, von Peru zu berichten. Hier waren wir vom 9. September bis ungefähr zum 26. September, also fast 3 Wochen.

Potentially the best experience of my life part 1.
September 13, 2013 - Cuzco, Peru
Day 1 In the briefing we'd had prior to the inca trail, the guide had said "we leave here at 6am. We'll pick you up from your hostel". Call me crazy, but I interpret that as a 6:05 am pickup time. But, as both Louise and the porter gently told me, they didn't ever say they'd pick me up at 6. No. No you're quite right. They didn't say that. But they certainly didn't say they'd pick me up at quarter past bloody five. Jokers. For the first time since we'd arrived in South America, it was...

Altitude and last minute strops
September 12, 2013 - Cuzco, Peru
Altitude: waking up out of breath and struggling up stairs. Arriving in Cuzco airport, I kissed ma and pa "ciao for now" and waited for Lou's flight to turn up. Lou and I were back to being in a hostel (but in a private room at least) and mum and dad were continuing to flash pack in one of the nicest hotels in town. When Lou walked through the gate she gave me a huge hug and burst into tears. Which in turn made me cry. We were inconsolable and attracting some strange looks. Oh, but we were...

Into The Andes
February 16, 2011 - Cuzco, Peru
When I came to Peru I knew the Inca Trail was closed. I was glad for this because one has to have a guide for this path and the total hike costs around 400$.  I wanted to do a multi day trek somewhere in the Andes. My first day in Cuzco I headed to the South American Explorers Club to get maps and information about a rather long hike I had heard about. I bought a topography map of the Machu Picchu region, food for 10 days, and bus ticket to Cachora to begin what was suppose to be a 10...

Huayna Potosi, Lago Titicaca, and into Peru
February 4, 2011 - Cuzco, Peru
Just after Australia day my Canadian friend, Nick, and I had a chance to do something extraordinary. The weather looked as if it was clearing and we took a chance to climb Huayna Potosi. The mountain lies 2 hours drive outside La Paz. The climb starts at 4700 meters and the summit is at 6088 meters which is 19,974 ft. we travelled with a company from La Paz called Altitud 6000 because after doing a bit of shopping with different companies we were quite sure this guide knew his stuff. We...
