September 2, 2010 - Saint Petersburg, Russia
Wow! I can’t believe I’m actually saying this, but we finally made it – our last visit to St. Petersburg! Nine separate weeks we’ve visited this major Russian city, visiting three days and two overnights each time, spending a grand total of twenty-seven days, almost an entire month in one port of call! Isn’t that crazy?! So, I’m sure you can imagine that although grateful and appreciative that that length of time allowed me to see and do everything there is to do in St....

Eating, Shopping and the end of the Baltic!!
September 2, 2010 - Saint Petersburg, Russia
September 2 So I'm nearing the end of my Baltic summer, which is very exciting because that means the Mediterranean is around the corner!  We are so close to the end of our contract and it's bittersweet.  I've gotten so used to living on a ship now and my routine here, but can't wait to be back home with family, friends, and communication!  It's pretty much been the same around here, just cruises back and forth from Copenhagen and Stockholm.  We're down to 45 days left, which is just...

On this, our sixth visit to St. Petersburg, I found myself with very few tours left to escort. In the past five weeks, I have done a pretty good job at getting on every excursion I was interested in. However, there was still one that I had yet to do – St. Petersburg Cathedrals. Now, if you can remember all the way back to my first St. Petersburg entry, then you’ll recall that I had the chance to visit many of the cathedrals in the city during the Highlights of St. Petersburg tour,...

For my second stop in St. Petersburg, I decided to try and see something at the famous Mariinsky Theatre. The Mariinsky Theatre is a historic theatre of opera and ballet in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Opened in 1860, it became the preeminent music theatre of late 19th century Russia, where many of the stage masterpieces of Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, and Rimsky-Korsakov received their premieres.  The Mariinsky Theatre is home to the Mariinsky Ballet, Mariinsky Opera and Mariinsky Orchestra. The...

August 1, 2010 - Saint Petersburg, Russia
This week in St. Petersburg marks our fifth visit, and this time, we were docked somewhere totally different. As I’m sure you can imagine the city is filled with many docks and terminals, ready to welcome and accommodate the several cruise ships that visit every single day. Our first few visits, we were right in the heart of it all, docking at the Lieutenant Schmidt Embankment. There was no main terminal; instead, a floating rectangle building acted as customs and immigration. Then we...
