Golden Week 2012 - Part 3: Seoul
May 8, 2012 - Seoul, South Korea
Day 6 We had checked the train times and prices the day before and looked at our remaining money and made the decision to travel to Seoul in first class on the bullet train, something we could never afford to do in Japan.  It was fun and felt like a real treat, especially when we discovered all the free snacks , bottles of water, eye-masks etc. that you could help yourself to. We arrived at Seoul station and immediately felt that Seoul was different again from Busan.  It was smarter and...

Last night - casino night
September 27, 2011 - Seoul, South Korea
This being my last day and with Ray back home this was to be Aunt/nephew day.  Thinking back on it I believe he was probably about 10 years old the last time we had spent any alone time together.  Funny how life can take you down a completely different road than you ever imagined.  But here was this grown man with 3 children of his own, a military career going strong and a major decision weighing heavy on his mind. Yet he was able to take time out to hang with me for the day and I was...

Sunday - North Seoul Tower
September 25, 2011 - Seoul, South Korea
Another lazy morning as I waited for Jayme and the kids to go to church.  I had originally planned on attending church with them until I learned it was a Catholic church and I just couldn't do it.  I have worked too hard to put that part of my life behind me.  We started our day off with brunch at the Alaska Mining Company - a restaurant here on post.  The kids wanted smiley pancakes.  Then we drove back into Seoul to Yongsan and took the subway to get us into the area near the N Seoul...

Saturday - The Drum Festival
September 24, 2011 - Seoul, South Korea
Saturday morning was a later start than usual but I was ok with that.  After all this is my vacation and who wants to wake up early every morning.  Besides I have been having trouble sleeping through the night.  I'm not having trouble falling asleep but staying asleep.  I think that most of the time I have been waking up because my feet or legs are hurting.  It's not all the walking but all the stairs I have had to go up & down.  Everywhere we go there are stairs.  I hate stairs.  And...

Korean Folk Village
September 23, 2011 - Seoul, South Korea
The Korean Folk Village is near Suwon, which is between Pyeongtaek and Seoul.  My travel guide describes it as like an open-air folk museum designed to show how Koreans once lived.  Part of our adventure always involves trying to find these places.  There are not that many signs in English and a lot of the streets look the same.  I have to give Jayme credit for finding her way around even if we do have to make a u-turn here or there.   When we entered into the Folk Village we...
