A day of rest in Barcelona
September 5, 2017 - Barcelona, Spain
After late nights and early risings we looked forward to a leisurely start today. In fact our room opens to an atrium that sees little of the morning sunlight so it was 9am before we even thought about rising, let alone beginning the day. Our plan for the day was to wander up to the Museu del Modernisme, in keeping with the Modernist themes of yesterday. We walked up La Rambla and came across the Café Eskolada which offered a pretty good selection for Desayunos (breakfast). That all...

Thouroughly Moderniste
September 4, 2017 - Barcelona, Spain
Our tickets for St Pau are for the 10am to 2pm time slot and the Sagrada tickets are for a 6pm entry so we took our time getting started this morning before walking along the Carrer Ferran to the Restaurante Ferran for an English Breakfast (in the Spanish Style - as per yesterday). Juice, bacon and fried eggs with toast and excellent coffee, and then more coffee. After that we felt ready for the day and we walked back to the hotel for our tourist kit, read cameras and cash, before slipping...

A quiet day in Barcelona
September 3, 2017 - Barcelona, Spain
At last we had a chance to relax and we took full advantage of it. It was 9am before we got up this morning, partly because of some busy days and early mornings and partly because the window of our room opens into an atrium where there is only a feeble bit of sunshine in the mornings and evenings. By the time we walked out to look for breakfast it was probably 11.30am but we thought we should keep up our tradition of a large breakfast to fuel up for the day and then save the next fuel stop...

Into the High Pyrenees
September 2, 2017 - Barcelona, Spain
Yet another early start today but looking forward to our tour that will take us up into the Pyrenees Mountains. We left the hotel about 7.45am to walk over to the Explore Catalunya office near the Palau de la Musica. It is becoming a familiar route along Calle Santa Ana. We thought we would choose a different place to get coffee along the way. I slipped up on the order so we ended up with regular sized coffees but I did manage to get two croissants. We walked and sipped and I nibbled at one...

A peaceful retreat to Montserrat
September 1, 2017 - Barcelona, Spain
Confident of finding our way via Carrer Santa Ana to the Explore Catalunya Office, we left the hotel at 7.45am and walked up a comparatively deserted La Rambla. Max said that when he had been out for his early walk there seemed to be left-over party goers from the night before, but even they were gone by now, and some of the stalls were already open. We picked up a take-away coffee and (for Max) a croissant – I am too worried about growing out of all my clothes to indulge in croissants for...
