Making a Silk Purse out of a Sow’s Ear
October 1, 2015 - Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland
Let me start by saying, “We kicked the Scheiße out of this day!” Bill won the prize for being “The Sickest” last night when he spiked a fever.  It was another miserable night for both of us.  Our hotel is located steeply downhill from town and the train station so by evening we have been too sick and weary to trek uphill for something to eat.  We did make it to the breakfast buffet this morning.  It has become our only meal of the day for the most part. We got back to our room...

To the top of Schilthorn
September 30, 2015 - Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland
We are now competing for “who is the sickest”.  Bill had had a cold when we left the states but his seemed to be waning.  Not anymore.  We both had a difficult night; up and down at various times to open the door to the outside; close the door to the outside.  At once hot and then too cold.   We did make our way down to the breakfast room.  There was an assortment of cereals, eggs, bacon, breads, fruit and muesli.  Since my stomach was still disagreeable I went with the muesli. ...

Sick in Switzerland
September 29, 2015 - Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland
I was up most of the night coughing, sneezing, vomiting, etc.  Bill drove us to our next destination with me mostly dozing off and on in the car.  I had figured that our three days in Switzerland would be the most physically taxing of the trip.  Now I’m not quite sure I’ll be up to doing much at all. We entered via Basel to Bern, not very lovely areas at all.  Quite industrialized.  Once we neared Thun the scenery started to change.  It was a little overcast and what looked like a...

Day 5 - Switzerland
January 1, 2013 - Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland
We got a sleep in today and had breakfast around 9am. I had the muesli as apparently it was invented by the Swiss. The muesli was random with coco pops, oats and cornflakes. Seemed to be a mix of their left over cereal. We departed at 10am to start our journey to JungFrau which is the highest mountain in Europe that you can get to. We got a little train from Lauterbrunnen to kleine Sheidegg which took about 30minutes and from Kleine Sheidegg to JungFrauJock was another hour. It was...

Day 4 - Paris to Switzerland - News Year Eve!!!
December 31, 2012 - Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland
We were up early and had breakfast and ready for 7.30am. It is still pitch black at this time it has only just started to get light around 8.45am. The bus was trapped in the basement of the hotel and we didn’t get going until 8am. Apparently there is really strict driving laws for bus drivers here where they can only drive 4.5 hours and must take 45min rest and need to log it otherwise they can get a 2000 euro on the spot fine. Today is going to be a long driving day, we are due to...
