Situation in Kenya
March 27, 2013 - Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
I’m in Tanzania since two weeks now and I’ll stay here for two more weeks. Because I don’t have access to the Kenyan news-channel, it is hard to get information about my “host-home-country”. But I gathered some information and will display them here. This is all I know about Kenya. I’m waiting to go back until the final ruling is out and everything is safe for sure. PS: I cannot upload pictures here, the connection is too slow. You'll have to wait until I'm back in Mombasa to see...

Dar Es-Salaam
March 27, 2013 - Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
I left Mombasa very early and reached Dar Es-Salaam (Dar) 10 hours later. I haven’t slept the night before, but the landscape on the journey was too beautiful to let my eyes close and fall asleep. We passed Lunga-Lunga, where I got my visa and a compliment on my African-hairstyle. The bus almost left without me at the border. I was running behind it and the people started to laugh and said “pole pole”. It means “slowly slowly”. The bus stopped and on we went. The people on the bus...

March 27, 2013 - Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Very slowly, I arrive in the family life in Mombasa. Adapting takes time. And to understand, that I’ll live here for one year also takes time. But this week of staying inside all day long because of the election, brought us close together. Every day I was playing with my two little host-sisters. My third host-sister introduced me to some of her friends, who are all really nice. We watched TV together or she tried to teach me how to dance. My non-existing dancing-skills made those...

My host-sisters birthday
March 27, 2013 - Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
On Thursday, 28.2.2013, it was my little host-sisters fourth birthday. My host-mum told me, that there won’t be many people. After we did our birthday shopping and came home late – there were about 20 kids waiting for us. And 10 adults. This is how a small birthday looks like... I decorated the room and picked my two host-sisters, who had to go to the saloon, while my host-mum prepared the food. The visitors came inside and the noise went up in no time. It was loud and full of people! The...

March 27, 2013 - Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
This entry is long and only about politics. End of February, beginning of March. My E-Mail-Inbox started to receive letters of the bureau for foreign affairs. They warned all Germans staying in Kenya, to take very good care of themselves, informed about the possibility of riots and told us to stay inside and wait. My host-mum prepared for this insecure time by buying food for two weeks. The supermarkets were crowded. Everyone went to buy food. They told us, that even the markets would...
