Elephants, Rainforest and 'Clever Pig'
May 13, 2012 - Chiang Mai, Thailand
On our second day in Chiang Mai we decided to do a day tour. I'm not really a day tour person, but after  couple of very good ones in Australia, this did seem like the best way to make the most of our very short time in Chiang Mai. So slightly dubius but also excited, Ed and I jumped in the back of the rattly open backed van/bus that came to pick us up. There were 8 of us on the tour...an American girl, a German girl, a Dutch couple, a french guy, an Isrealian guy and us. As the day went on,...

Tigers, Temples and crazy Tuk tuk drivers
May 12, 2012 - Chiang Mai, Thailand
On thursday night we set off for Chiang Mai. This was the first time I had been north of Bangkok in Thailand - when I visited four years ago we went down south and did the islands so this time I as excited to see a whole new side of Thailand. And we certainly did. Within an hour of arriving in Chiang Mai I had decided that I loved it. After checking int our htel we set off for the night bazaar nearby and had a lovely wander round before grabbing some food. I also had my first experience of a...

Trecking in Chiang Mai
July 9, 2011 - Chiang Mai, Thailand
The treck was far more tourist friendly than the last one i went on, which to be honest i really appreciated. They picked us up from our hotel at 9am and off we set. It was a 2 hour drive to our first activity, stopping at a local market on the way to pick up some last minute supplies. When we arrived we were greeted with a delicious lunch at a cute little restaurant just next to the elephant camp. Elephant riding was great fun despite our elephant being over fed and over spoilt by...

Arrival in Chiang Mai
July 8, 2011 - Chiang Mai, Thailand
Our journey to the north of thailand was a very long one, but fotunately we did eventually make it to Chiang Mai. The luxury VIP sleeper really didn't live up to it's name but luckily I have mastered sleeping under not so ideal conditions. We both managed to get a full eight hours in true backpacker style (seated upright), I'm finally thankful for those freezing nights back home in the front seats of Jürgen's ute. However, we were both in dyer need of a shower and some fresh clothes. Even...

Chiang Mai und Mae Hong Son
March 25, 2011 - Chiang Mai, Thailand
