London Calling
August 10, 2015 - London, United Kingdom
Weekday breakfast times at our hotel were from 06:30am until 09:30am and our train to London was due to leave at 10:33am so the timing was perfect to take a leisurely morning meal and catch a bit of television news. At least the crowing over Australia's Ashes debacle has finally stopped so we were more comfortable watching the news. We returned to our room and organised our packing before checking out of the hotel and walking up to the station. We had collected our tickets from the machine...

Hot springs and mountains
November 23, 2013 - London, United Kingdom
We call Mezid to pluck us from paradise in search of real altitude. Addis and it's local regions sitting at around 2000m, we don't notice any real effect, travelling to the Wenchi crater at about 3400m we want to seer how this affects us. Rich foreigners take a helicopter over Mt Wenchi, most take 4x4's for obvious reasons. We have Mezid's can van which takes an absolute hammering on the non roads. We see one other vehicle on the 30km ride. Distracting me from Mezid's losing battle trying...

We flew the dust cloud of addis first thing on Monday morning luckily just as the water crises was setting in at the hostel. Hoping for a low profile ride over to Debir Zeit, Mezid calls me to the front of the van. Ethiopias staple -Injera the fowl grey, cold, floppy, flannel pancake comes with every meal. Teff, the grain responsible for this meal ruiner lines the roads and plains out of Addis. It is custom to eat with your RIGHT hand, struggling to understand the selection of a staple...

The wedding part two.
November 18, 2013 - London, United Kingdom
Wedding day round two was a leisurely midday start. Having calibrated to Ethiopian time we plan to arrive at two. Unfortunately our groom reveals that he is still British at heart finding us at 11.45 practising our synchronised bombing off the diving boards (not without tips for improvement from sideline locals) and instructs us to get ready. Without idea of what we are preparing for we turn up at 12.30 for our walk which I understood to be part of the ceremony- it was just a collective...

The Wedding -round two.
November 17, 2013 - London, United Kingdom
Wedding day! (Well part 2/3) Beggining with another run, broken by a swim in the venue pool and a run back to our lowlier abode. We were sad to note the absence of the dead dog, it was the deadman that was one step more than I could handle, apparently a traffic victim... With an hour and a half to get ready and cross gridlocked addis, still a year overdue for a haircut I decide this is the time to undertake a 'Keen cut'. Polly did a good job considering the quality of the base material,...
