Day 9 - Mt Rainer
September 12, 2010 - Morton, Washington, United States
We headed to Mt Rainer today. The weather was really nice until we started to head up the Mountain. We got to 5600ft up the mountain which is the highest that you can drive and then have to hike the rest of the way. The snow level was at 9000ft. Mt Rainer is about 14,000ft high so it was higher than Mt Hood. We only saw a small part of Mt Rainer as cloud covered most of it, we did see a glacier on the side of Mt Rainer. There are heaps of landslides and you can see the evidence on the side...

Day8 - Mt St Helens
September 11, 2010 - Morton, Washington, United States
It is September 11 today but it seems like any other day since I got here, there didn’t seem to be any different. But mind you we were suppose to have a minute silence at 6am which is 9am New York time if I have it right and we were asleep anyway. Today we left Stevenson behind and headed to Mt St Helens. Mt St Helens is the most recent volcano to erupt, it is amazing to see how the wildlife was devastated from the eruption. Mt St Helens had a major eruption in the 1980’s that blew out...

10/29/08 - Mt. Rainier
November 28, 2008 - Morton, Washington, United States
On October 29, while still staying in Randle, WA we went for a hike at Mt. Rainier. This was the best hike yet. Mt. Rainier is so awesome. We hiked 6.5 miles roundtrip on the Skyline Trail. The first part of the trail is steep, so you definitely get warmed up by the time you reach the top. It was a beautiful, sunny, clear day. Once you arrive at the top, you have great views of the Cascade Range, and you can see Mt. Rainier almost for the whole hike. It is hard to believe you are seeing...

10/28/08 & 11/05/08 - Rt. 12 to White Pass&Yakima
November 27, 2008 - Morton, Washington, United States
This is part two of the journal from Randle, WA where we were staying at Maple Grove RV Resort. We drove on Rt. 12 on Oct. 28 to Yakima. This is a beautiful drive through White Pass. We stopped at a viewpoint where we could see Mt. Rainier in the distance. We passed by Rimrock Lake and took some great pictures there. A few days later on November 4 there was a snow storm at White Pass, so of course, we drove back up on the 5th to play in the snow. There is nothing more beautiful than the...

10/27/08 - Mt. St. Helens
November 26, 2008 - Morton, Washington, United States
We drove up to Mt. St. Helens on 10/27, which was a nice sunny day. The drive up was really pretty with lots of fall color. As we neared the top, we could see the devastation that was still there even though the volcano erupted in 1980. A volunteer at the visitor center said the giant avalanche moved northward at 110-155 mph, covering an area of about 24 sq miles. When the lateral blast began a few seconds later, the velocity grew to around 700 mph, causing devastation as far as 19 miles...
