Sapa
April 27, 2010 - Sa Pa, Vietnam
Just got back from Sapa! To be honest, I didn’t even really know what was in Sapa, I was just told that I had to go to Halong Bay and Sapa, so I booked tours for both places on my second day in Vietnam. I now know why it is a must see though—it is beautiful! It is in a valley of some huge mountains and there are quaint little villages and hundreds of rice patties everywhere. Amazing to see! The beginning of my tour started off HORRIBLY though. I just came from my super fun Halong Bay...

Sapa
August 15, 2009 - Sa Pa, Vietnam
After a relaxing couple of days on the boat in Ha Long Bay, we headed up into the mountains to the west of Hanoi to visit some minority villages around the former French retreat of Sapa.  The surrounding area is home to several ethnic minorities, including the H'mong, Dao and Tay.  We got to Sapa from Hanoi via an overnight train (shared with two other Brits and a Swiss also from our hostel, interestingly enough...), arriving in Lao Cai (a neighbouring town) at about 5.30 in the morning....

Trekking in Sapa
June 6, 2009 - Sa Pa, Vietnam
The same day that I got back from Halong Bay I left for a trekking tour in Sapa (time is short for me now). There were no tickets left on the overnight train so two other English guys (James and Ross) and myself had to take a bus instead. The bus itself was ok but the fact that we had to sit through 2 hours of some Vietnamese music videos of the SAME girl every time, singing cheesy love songs and reminiscing about her boyfriend, with each video being VERY VERY VERY slightly different from the...

Sapa
March 19, 2009 - Sa Pa, Vietnam
Just a couple of hours after returning from our biking tour, we were on the road again, this time heading for Sapa in northwestern Vietnam for a couple of days of hill country trekking. We grabbed some baguette sandwiches from a little family bakery, then boarded the night train at Hanoi station. The kids were very excited to be sleeping on a train again, and this time we had our own cozy four-bunk compartment and the train left right on time at 9pm, so we all got a very good night's sleep....
