Hey all, well i arrived at bangkok in one piece can u believe it, trekked from manchester to heathrow, then heathrow to doha. had a mad rush to get to my connecting flight to bangkok in doha as the plane had left heathrow almost an hour late which left me with 20 minutes to run for next flight, really didnt wana be stuck out in Qatar, not sure the political situation in Qatar but didnt want to find out. Finally arrived in bangkok after travelling almost 6000miles over a gruelling 24hrs whwere a taxi picked me up and drove me 3hrs to the wildlife centre. Believe me i was tired at that point!!
Centre is unbelievable tho, so many animals here, theres over 200 primates such as gibbons and macaques, a tiger called meow, some otters, sunbears, hornbills, elephants and loads more. Needless to say im in my element!!! All the staff here are lovely too, about 15 other volunteers mostly from europe, oz and the US, who all made me really welcome.
Today work started at 6.30am which involved preparing food for all the primates, thats a lot of fruit to cut up and distribute. was fun tho, have to be careful with some of the monkeys as they try to grab u in excitement for food and if a macaque gets hold im not getting free they're soooo strong its scary!! We feed the animals twice a day and collect the bowls and wash after. So have a couple of tasks during day but have free time too if we choose. Being an eager beaver on my first day tho i helped in the new elephant enclosure which involved doing some digging, clearing plants and building a dam across the river, was loads of fun actually and got to play with the elephants, arr baby one is sooooo cute!
Tonight we're in hua hin a town about 40 min from centre, came for some pizza. off now for some drinks and shopping in the market so will catch up soon x x
