Hey all, can u believe it yesterday i trekked the great wall of china!!!!!!!!
I trekked form a place on the wall called Jinshanling in another region called Hebei for four hours across winding paths, some at a staggeringly steep 90degree angles through 30 watch towers to the highest peak at Simitai in beijing!!!! It was by far the most amazing single experience I've had so far, it was incredible. It was a really strenous trek up and down steps or steep paths, some places the paths were broken without walls on either side so u are literally thousands of feet up in the mountains with nothing either side of u, but i didnt struggle at all, didnt once feel scared by the height or out of breathe from the climb (thank god for the gym) as i was just so in awe of the whole thing!! The view was breathtaking, u could see out to Mongolia on one side and China on the other and the wall and mts were covered in light snow, wow!!! Can't explain it but wow!!!! Loved every second of it, guess trekking and hiking is a new found hobby of mine, got the biggest buzz from it all. Pol on the other hand hated every second of it and suffered from sheer exhaustion (cut down on the fags pol) to sheer panic as she's scared of heights, really don't think it was the best idea for a person with vertigo to walk the great wall of china, let alone attempt the highest and most perilous section. Luckily with the help of me and 2 little chinese women who were like little mt goats she managed it, kinda good really as wen u break down at the mid point theres no way out apart from heading back which is still 2 hours back or going forward another 2 hours, unfortunately the chinese qin dynasty that built the wall 1000's of years ago never looked into the future and accomodated emergency exits for 20th century toursts!!! Funny when look back but bless her she was so scared as im sure most normal people wud've been but i just absolutely loved every single second and wud love to do it again!!! Can't believe it I've trekked the Grest Wall of China, not many people can say that!!!!
I've enjoyed Beijing and glad i came but i kno its not my favourite place in the world but the great wall for me made it a must do trip. Beijing seems and is the other side of the world, no-one speaks english and the culture is so so different, truely understand the term culture shock now!!! It is such a wierd place, i mean this is a nation who eat chicken feet, i mean how much meat can there possibly be on a chickens foot??? There are literally 9 million bicycles in Beijing (katie Melua wasn't lying) and they are crazy dare devil cyclists who just sail across a huge crossroad with cars comin at them from all directions, pedestrians just as fearless and just stroll out in front of buses forcing them to stop. Roads are all in all crazy, and don't expect just because the green mans on to cross that traffic will stop for u because they wont, no wonder theres a hospital on every corner as ther must be millions of rd accidents a day! Also they have (dare i say it) squat toliets, yes that means hover people and its hard to hover in skinny jeans with 90 million layers of clothing on, and mum and lynda are key witneses to my toilet obsession and these are well below par!!
Its freezing here amd just to get thru the day without frost bite im wearing, 2 pairs of socks, thermals, 2vest tops, a kaftan, t shirt, hoddie, hat, scarf, gloves, coat and trainers, literally my entire wardrobe but dispite all this had a good time. Me and pol having a laugh with the other 2 backpackers in our room, lots of beers (Tsingtao) and merriment and pols quirks keep me entertained, she almost as dumb as me, other day i drew cash out at atm outside bank and she was queing to go in bank and im like wot u queing for and she replies "coz u need to change ur money into chinese", it comes out in chinese u fool!!!!!! So funny!!!!!
Well its zeitien (goodbye) from beijing off on overnight train tonight to Xi'an wer terracotta warriers are and panda sanctuary
Goodbye Beijing x
