Hong kong madness!!!

December 4, 2007 - Hong Kong - Kowloon, China

Hong kong is amazing!!!!! Place really took  my breath away, harbour is so beautiful. Love it!!!! Got to see and do most of the sights over 3 days, wandered the avenue of stars on the kowloon harbour which is kinda like the stars walk in hollywood but chinese actors, got to see the jackie chan, jet lei, bruce lee handprints, really cool. Got the star ferry over the water to hong kong island and marvelled at the skyscarpers, markets and antique stalls before exploring the man po temple. really cool little temple hidden by skyscrapers that had rose up all around it. Its one of the oldest and most famous temples in hong kong as it worships the god of war and is a infamous for being the worshipping place of the secret police and the triads, needless to say if the triads are involved it was a pretty impressive temple. Managed a pic from outside which showed a suspiciously triad looking mercedes-eeks, and also went inside, was so cool full of spiralling incense hanging from the ceiling burning away, really good experience.

Nearby we tackled the famous mid levels escalator which goes from the bottom of hong kong island up 800m high (largest in the world). Thought would be really scary but luckily escalator was in stages and levelled off every so often on cute little streets in soho so got to see some yummy restaurants and bars all too expensive for our small travel budget (5quid a beer eeks). Once at the top we got to stroll thru the zoological and botanical gardens which was free and amazing, full of really exotic plants and trees that grew down walls for miles below us, also got to enjoy looking at all the primates kept there, such as orangutan and tamarins. Afterwards headed over to the peak tram which as the name suggests takes u all the way to victoria peak at the top of hong kong island, got to look down at the ginormous skyscrapers which seem tiny from so high up, was dark by this point so got to see the city at its best all neoned up, ace! Got to watch the light show which happens every night were lasers are sent off from tops of buildings along the harbour, really wow!!!! Had such an amazing time in hong kong, found a resident irish bar for drinks and enjoyed happy hour (well hours 4-8pm wer cocktails wer buy one get one free) took full advantage of free drinks even if each one cost a fortune!!! After a particulary late night we decided to stay up and watch the sunrise over the harbour, such a spectacular place, loved every second of it x

Thought you might find this funny - went on our works xmas do and we ended up in the Krazy House!!!! yes me a 40 yr old. It was like being in a episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or a sad teen flick!!! could not wait to get home - never thought I would say this, but the music was too loud. Ya mums off next week and Nicola is off away on Thursday so not many of us left to go out and get drunk over xmas (the best/hardest drinkers will be away). I will email you next week after your mum gets there. Look after yourself, Love LYNDA & ANDY
