Well well well, iv been a right busy one since arrived in thailand nearly 3 weeks ago (god has it been that long). Been having so much fun and been moving around loads not had a chance to update the old journal!
Arrived in bangkok on 7th december which meant we had officially left china, hallelujah!!!! Bangkok is absolutely amazing, very very humid tho which is a shock to the system!! We headed to the legendary khoa san road-the capital of the backpacking community, arrived at 2am which wasn't the best plan as wer greeted by a dirty drunken street full of other smelly backpackers, needless to say we wer not amused having to lug our houses around on our backs (backpack by the way) in the sweaty heat to find a hostel whilst gettin accosted by drunken travellers, first impressions hey!! next day got to see it in full swing tho after a much needed sleep and shower we discovered the place was amazing, full of stalls and street vendors and has such a buzz about the place-wow!!!! Bangkok was incredible, we shopped buying cute dresses for 2quid, ate yummy thai food whilst taking in the sights such as the temple of the reclining buddha, the grand palace, river boat ride and a tuk tuk experience. We partied so much on khoa san road probably a little too hard!!! So bizarre at night these stalls roll up full of alcohol and tap into the street wires to blast music and put out plastic chairs to enjoy their buckets of very very strong cocktails, so funny police always turn up and they yell police quick drink, u have to down ur drinks and loads of others they hand u for free to get rid of evidence then roll down street with them, usually in the panic they forget u have a bill to pay so u are legless for free on illegally served alcohol-loving it!!!!!
After a few days in bangkok we headed to ayuthaya, the ancient capital, for some culture, the place was so beautiful, full of ancient ruins which were breathtaking and old delapidated churches with buddhas just out in the open, made a nice change from the well kept temples in bangkok, these were actually more beautiful!!!! There was a festival going on too which made for an amazing atmosphere, got to experience the place properly and ate from a floating restaurant, was so beautiful. Another stop on the thailand tour so far was to a stunning place called kanchanaburi, or as u will know as the place with the bridge over the river kwai, made famous by the movie and was the site of the building of the death railway that connects thailand to burma. This place was undescribable, headed over to some museums to learn the history of it all, the railway was constructed during world war 2, commisioned by the japanese who forced prisoners of war to make the railway in 16months wen it should have taken 5 years. The story was tragic but fascinating and really made me understand what had happened in this beautiful place, learnt the facts but also got to read accounts from old pows which really put it into perspective, visited the cemetary and hellfires pass (the most deadly part of rail) which were very upsetting, and then the famous bridge! The whole thing touched me more than i ever realised it would, a spectacular experience which opened my eyes! Had some really good times at kwai tho, lots of drunken shenanagans (listen to me just so u know im not an alcoholic just meeting people all the time requires socialising he he) and some good laughs despite the tragic history of the place, neede to have fun in nights to lighten the spirit, we bonded loads with a lad we'd met called nathan so had some laughs with him, he's our adopted dan (our male best friend from home) while we are away and dont have our danny boy!! had loads of fun and managed to break a hammock (apparently they cant take the weight of 3 people) and had illegal beers bought slyly from the backdoor of hostel (it was election day and cant sell beer as think it'll impair peoples judgement he he ), all in all a brilliant trip, a must for everyone going to thailand!
At the moment im in hua hin sunning myself on the beach with mummy dearest, yey have my mum for a bit, who has spoilt me rotten!!!!! we have had such a good time, toured bangkok wen mum first arrived (she nearly died from heat), went in tuk tuks, shopped til we dropped at nightmarkets (courtesy of nans xmas money-thanks nan), ate from street vendors, had thai massages, had my hair done, are about to brand ourselvesĀ for life with tattoos (sorry nan!!), ate, ate, ate and sunned, sunned, sunned!!!!! its been so amazing having mum for a while, will be tough going back to backpacker from lazy holiday maker, o yeah and by the way courtesy of mum im a true scouse backpacker as she has blondified me again (roots were unimaginable) im orange from carrot oil and now have a chloe bag (off mum for xmas), i dont kno u can take the girl out of liverpool, but u cant take liverpool out of the girl- im a backpacker with a chloe bag-i will be shunned by the backpacking community he he!!!!!!
