Home Again and Thankful

July 10, 2017

Home.  It’s familiar driving from the Marquette area home.  We enjoyed a great night’s sleep (no train) and didn’t leave our campground until 9:40 a.m.  We stopped for our usual shared breakfast in Ishpeming and somehow avoided getting gas in Marquette.  We slipped into a gas station in Christmas, Michigan on fumes.  By 12:15 we were crossing “The Mighty Mac” into the land of the trolls.  We encountered a huge dump of rain near Higgins Lake and made it safely home by 4:00 p.m.

All in all, we had been in 10 different states over the past 17 days and driven 4,750 miles.  We challenged ourselves physically; beyond what I really thought were our abilities; and we were successful!  We “disconnected” from television, social media, email, and other heavy responsibilities as much as we had in years and that in itself was a great vacation.  We weren’t exposed to ugly political discourse or world traumas and our spirits were truly replenished.  We returned home happy and grateful; grateful for the neighbors that kept our plants alive, grateful for the opportunities we have been afforded, and always grateful for each other.  We recognize and appreciate what we have now, but still look forward to the next adventure; be it at Plum Loco, Costa Rica, the moon – or beyond!
