Baack to Botswana

August 21, 2016 - Francistown, Botswana

August 21

We were up really early today as this was going to be our longest day of travel.

Set off before 7 on the rather degraded Hwange roads, although they were no worse than they were the previous time we visited about 3 years ago.  It is very dry at the moment, but we saw game, including elephant, kudu and a large herd of giraffe.

We stopped at Deteema Picnic Site where we had been on our previous visit.  It’s a lovely place, rocks and petrified trees abound and we had breakfast sitting at a table made of rock under a huge tree.  A very special place.

We left Zimbabwe via the sleepy Pandamatenga Border Post which was the quietest we have seen and then the loooong road south which is a beautiful road, but just goes straight for miles and miles.

Finally we arrived at Woodlands Stopover Camp Site which was probably the nicest camp site we have visited.  Lovely pool to cool off after the long trip and a super veggie curry made by Jodi.

And the nights are cooler here so we should sleep well.
