The Drowsy Chaperone!

July 31, 2009 - Bellport, New York, United States

Hey Everyone!

It’s about that time.  I just wanted to update everyone on what has been going on.  Right now, I am currently up in Long Island, NY.  I am performing in the show The Drowsy Chaperone at Gateway Playhouse.  We started rehearsals about two weeks ago and we just opened this past Wednesday.  The cast is awesome and very talented.  We all have been getting along so well.  It’s an older cast, compared to the other casts I have worked with in the past.  But I really enjoy it.  It’s kind of like a summer camp feel here.  We all live together in a “cast housing” sort of deal.  Everything we do is right here on “campus”.  The rehearsal space, kitchen, tv room, pool, party room, and the theatre.  It’s all here.  Just a few blocks down the road is the center of town.  There are nice places to dine, a CVS, grocery store, Chinese food, and a pizza joint.  It’s a nice set up.  I am only an hour and half away from the city by train.

The shows have been going well.  Just some technical issues we are still working out, but it’s really coming together.  After this weekend is over we will get two days off in a row.  (Monday & Tuesday)  I thought I may go back into the city for the two days, but I may just stay here.  If there is an audition, I will probably head into the city.

Unfortunately since I am here, I was unable to attend my cousins wedding that happened a few weeks ago.  I saw a bunch of pictures and videos online and it looked like everyone had a great time.  I am sorry I missed out.  Congrats to Terri & Joe!

Also, today…is my sister’s birthday.  Happy Birthday Stacey!  Have a drink for me! Ha!  I believe my mom and dad are going to try to get up here to see the show.  I don’t do a whole lot in the show.  The ensemble only consists of 4 people.  Two guys and two girls.  There are only 17 people in the cast.  I am used to doing big ensemble shows, so it’s a nice change of pace.  I play various background parts; butler, reporter, aviator, and a monkey!  Ha!

I have taken a lot of pictures recently.  A lot are from before we opened, and some are from opening night.  Feel free to check out the Gateway Playhouse website for more information about the cast.

Thank you everyone for following along with my adventures.  Hopefully there will be many more to come!

Happy August!

God Bless,

Matthew
