The Drowsy Chaperone II!
Hello again! Things here up in Bellport have been great. People call it Camp Gateway, because it has a summer camp feel. The weather has been absolutely wonderful. Lots of sunshine and blue skies. We have been very fortunate and haven’t had much rain. However, a few days have been extremely hot, which made for some very sweaty shows. I don’t know if I mentioned in my last entry, but I am understudying two roles in the show. Our first weekend open, we had a little scare because one of the guys who I cover got sick. I was of course terrified, ha! But the cast was extremely supportive and I did a midnight cramming session with a few good friends. In the end, the guy was okay and I never had to go on. Whew! Close call. But hey, now I know the part.
The show is a different type of musical. It’s a show that makes fun of musical theatre. So, it’s interesting to see what the audiences reaction is every performance. My mom and dad will be coming to see the show at the end of this week, and I’m not exactly sure what they will think of it. If you are a fan of musical theatre and know your musical theatre, you will most likely find the show enjoyable. It’s quirky and different.
What else?!?! Hmm…the themed parties that they hold here on the weekends are wonderful. I do not partake in any of the drinking activities, but I do usually try to make an appearance and say hello. They really go all out. The themes so far have been; Christmas in July, White Trash Party, and a Pirate Party. I mentioned in my last blog that it snowed at the Christmas party right?
This week will be our last week of shows. We just finished up a 9 show week. Next week we only have 8 shows. Tomorrow we are off and will be going over to our musical director’s house for a pool party/bbq. We are very excited about it. Our next show isn’t until Tuesday night at 8pm. So, it’s a nice little break. The next show is Dirty Rotten Scoundrels here at Gateway. That cast arrived on Tuesday and have been in rehearsals all week. So now we have two casts on campus again! J
I have am so glad to be a part of this production. I have met some really great people and I hope to keep in touch with many of them. I have learned so much from this experience. I will be sad to have to say goodbye come next weekend.
On a happy note, my parents are coming to visit on Friday. They will be seeing the show Friday night and sticking around on Saturday to sight see. They then will be driving me back to the city on Sunday on their way back home. Then, it’s back to the grind! I already have a slew of auditions that I am eager to get to upon my return.
I will be in New York City until the middle of September. Then I will be heading out to the Phoenix, Arizona area to start rehearsals for my next show. Anything Goes! (that’s the title of the show) I will be in Arizona from Sept 14th thru Nov 15th. After that I will be heading back home to Ohio to spend some quality time with the family for the holiday season. There is NO place like HOME for the holidays!
Well, it’s pretty late here. It’s about 12:45am. I always find myself writing these things at such odd hours. I sometimes wonder if people really read this. Is this a waste of time? I figure that most of you are just interested in seeing the pictures? Hahaha, anyways...I better get going!

Have a great week everyone!
