Montjuic on the Teleferic

August 19, 2015 - Barcelona, Spain

We took breakfast at the Restaurant Ferran again (definitely a good start for the day at a good price) and caught the Metro to Parallel and hopped on the Funicular Railway to Montjuic. The Metro Ticket includes this trip and the ticket machines have an English option so it is simple enough to use the Metro. From the funicular station we then walked further up the hill to get tickets for the Teleferic, the cable car, to the castle. At the top we went for a walk through the gardens and parklands surrounding the castle. From there you get views to infinity across the harbours and marinas as well as across the city to the mountains.

After completing a leisurely circuit we retraced our steps down the cable car, the funicular and the Metro back to the hotel. It had been very hot walking in the sun so we took our devices up to the rooftop terrace to do some writing in the journal, have a beer and take a dip. A very pleasant way to relax after our earlier efforts. So relaxing, in fact, that we returned to the room for a siesta until it was time to go out looking for dinner.

We returned to the My Way restaurant for another superb meal. Aubergine Parmigiana to start then Mushroom Risotto for Margaret and a Seafood Paella for me. The paella was full of cockles, mussels, little squid and prawns and was presented with grilled prawns, and cockles and mussels in their shells on top. Brilliant but very rich with a tomato based sauce cooked through. We had the Sangria Cava again which is very refreshing and easy to drink.

As we left we met the Israeli chap with the pamphlets that had pointed this restaurant out to us last night and chatted with him for a while, particularly about the economics of Spain and he said although it was tough here it was still better than Israel. He works three different jobs, his own small software company, musician and distributing the flyers. After our talk we stopped at one of the many tempting ice-cream shops for a caramel waffle cone for Margaret - except for the few 'little' licks I had to take to stop it dribbling.
