The Road to Phoenix

July 25, 2012 - Phoenix, Arizona, United States

Before leaving Yuma we made a quick visit to the Yuma Territorial Prison. I wouldn't want to be locked up there with 100+ temperatures. Driving on Route 8 we had to stop in Dateland for a "World Famous Date Shake."

Had a great visit with Bob Barnum and his lady, Priscilla, in Phoenix. Bob is a retired Air Force Colonel. He was in Carla's high school class and was Bill's neighbor in Kerhonkson, NY. Priscilla's son Andre is the right fielder for the LA Dodgers.

Then it was a surprise visit to niece Hallie and her kids Hannah and Jaxson in Mesa.

Again, staying off the freeway we selected a rural road between Phoenix and Tucson. Driving along we found the spot where Tom Mix passed away. Now who could pass that up. The desert cacti provided interesting sights.

By the way, dry heat is still hot when it's 110 degrees F (43 degrees C) no matter what anyone tells you!
