Beautiful Norway

October 18, 2007 - Oslo, Norway

Viking shipThe trip from Bergen proved to be even more spectacular than the journey there. Our first stop was the the Havraboka museum site which is a 4000 year old working farm. It has never seen a plough or horse on the property which is on steep site running down to a lake. From there we travelled along the Sognafjord through the towns of Voss, Auerland and Flåm. Our photos try to do justice to the landscape. One of the most intriguing aspects of this trip was the number and length of tunnels on the roads in this area to make travel accessible especially during the winter.

Every part of our trip so far had been great, but these parts of Norway would have to be the most spectacular as far as scenery goes. While we probably have missed the most colourful part of autumn, the west cost still yielded beautiful colours. It was great to see so much of this country without a cover of snow. Martin and Annette have put a lot of thought into our visit.

House at the AlpinsenterWe also saw some places we had seen under snow on our previous visit in 2002/3 - the Alpinsenter in Nesbyen and Skolrudstölen where we had done some cross country skiing. They were quite different without the metre covering of snow. And to spend time at Martin and Annette’s house at Isakbräten without the snow was also to see it in a different light.

Ferry to CopehhagenFrom Nesbyen we travelled to Oslo by train, there to connect with the overnight ferry to Copenhagen. This blog entry is brought to you courtesy of the ferry and is being sent from somewhere in the region of the North Sea between Norway and Denmark. The joys of technology.

Hi Auntry Birg and Uncle Ross,
We leave for Vienna tomorrow. We have a stopover in Seoul, South Korea and then arrive in Vienna on the 21 October. We are not sure what we will be doing during our 2 weeks holiday starting the 3 November. We have our accommodation at the Tirolerheim Student House in Vienna booked for the whole stay so will be using it as a base. We'll be sure to keep in touch and let you know where we decide to go and maybe our paths can cross somewhere along our travels. Sounds like you are having such a good time. The pics are amazing. You'll have some fantastic stories for us. All our love, Dylan and Katie. p.s. We set up a little site like this just type our names into the search bar. We will also be checking our usual email accounts.

I've just read your entire blogsite in one sitting! It was good to catch up with where you've been and to see your photos! Looks like you're having a wonderful time. Keep it up.
Appreciated your phone call at Rotary this morning.
