With some regret we left the warmth of Finale Ligure and headed towards France. the trip took us along the Mediterranean coast past San Remo, Monaco, Cannes and Nice. In parts we saw the blue water on one side and the snow capped peaks of the alps on the other. The scenery was stunning.
Back in France once again, we decided to stop for lunch near Avignon. Ross recognised the place as the same one he and Lee had used when taking Bruce and Doreen to the airport in Marseilles. While we were in the cafe queue, a woman spoke to us in rapid French. We apologised for our basic French, so she switched to English. Turned out her daughter had just returned from working in Melbourne and she was so grateful for the kindness shown that she not only asked us to sit with her to eat, but bought us coffee and then gave us some VERY nice French wine. We were also invited to stay at her apartment on the coast near Marseilles, but had to pass on that.
Orange where we are now is an interesting town, the hub of which is the 2000 year old Roman theatre and the Roman Arc de Triomphe. Both are in great condition and very accessible. Today we took the cheese, chorizo and fruit we bought at the town market and drove through the vineyards and lavender farms into the countryside to look at some other historic sites. A very pleasant day.
Tomorrow we head to Beaune near Dijon for a short stay.
Au revoir

Love
