We are back at Dorothea and Hans' house in Meckenheim, Germany enjoying our time with family before making the final foray to CDG Paris for the flight home on Thursday night.
Our latest adventure took us from Orange to the town of Beaune near Dijon. It is the centre of the Burgundy wine region and this walled town had a lovely feel to it. We did know we were back in France however, by the mounds of doggy doo everywhere! Of course in Beaune we sampled the local products and had a wonderful dinner at a recommended local restaurant. I particularly enjoyed the flavour of my escargot casserole entree.
The trip from there back into Germany took us through the lovely farming country along the Rhine and then along the northern parts of the Black Forest. The only downside was the constant rain.
Here in Meckenheim we have spent time talking, and have relaxed, washed clothes and organised our suitcases for the trip home. On Sunday afternoon we visited Dorothea's mother Gretel (my Dad's cousin) and father Paul, then went to the busy Weinachtsmarkt in Dudesheim. A trip to Europe in December is not complete without sampling the Gluwein, sausages and other local delicacies at one of the Christmas markets. We also bought some gifts to take home.
Wednesday we head to Reims for the night and then it is only a short trip to Paris where we return the Megane. By that time we will have done about 6000 kms. The car has been really economical and a great way to travel to do the things we wanted to do. Three months is long enough and we are now looking forward to going home and seeing family and friends.
Auf wiedersehen until our final entry from Mudgee

Have a safe trip home! We are looking forward to catching up with you somewhere over the schools hols
