The team met yesterday for a post-program reflection 10 days after our return. It seems like 100 days. In that 10 days we returned to work/home/wherever, prepared and began the second semester and one of us got back into the swing of packing lunches, dropping kids off at school and covering days with no school or childcare...just as if I never left.
We looked at some photos, talked about some of the strangeness and excitement of coming home and trying to explain this experience to others. I shared some thanks and rememberances about some of the little things from the trip...the kindness of a piece of gum on the airplane, music at dinner one night (Eagles' live version of Hotel California), a timely reminder that "We're in Guatemala," the memory of the minority of men sneaking away for a pre-dinner Gallo (that would be Guatemalan cerveza which seemingly has the Guatemalan market cornered) and finally the ultimate little thing of a hug at just the right time.
