Me and Morgan

April 26, 2008 - New York, New York, United States

Well I had my first official night out last night....bit rough this morning but all for a good cause. Me and Warren (Sound bloke over from London) hit Smiths bar on 8th for some live music. The band was 'The Marley Brothers' and were a strange group who look like they were taken straight from an episode of Magnum P.I! After that we hit a club down in Greenwich Village after a yellow cab had motored us down there - these v8 cabs have torque that an M3 owner would be jealous of! Another example of totally pointless excess which is rife here - I love it!

This morning me and Warren decided to get some tickets to see 'The Country Girl', a play starring none other than Morgan Freeman and Peter Gallacher (Sandy from The O.C). We rocked up to the box office and asked for 2 tickets, they were supposed to be $76.50 each. The guy (who was probably the campest guy ive ever met) charged us just $26.50 each! We said nothing and slid away before he changed his mind.

We turned up for the performance at 2pm and whilst the usher was kindly showing us to our seats he promptly interuppted and said "Oh....I see you guys are in a box". He then proceeded to show us up to a private box where Me and Warren were within feet of the stage and were positioned just like the Queen at a Royal Variety Performance. We felt quite out of place and people were pointing and staring for quite some time before the lights dipped. Two guys in hoodies and trainers when the guys in the opposite boxes were in suits - ha ha.

The play was amazing and Morgan Freeman lit up the stage. He truely has an unworldy ora, he really is a different class. His character was in a dark place in some scenes and some of his lines splendidly matched many of his Shawshank words. I was in total awe. Peter Gallacher was amazing too, he really is a great actor despite only being known as Sandy from The O.C.

Time for a quick beer with Warren then its time for me to leave for New Jersey and meet up with Rob. I've still got much of New York to see and I will definately come back here for another week before I head West. I cant leave without at least one more day in Central Park. Anyhow, we're off to watch the Miss Italia 2008 contest a few blocks away - its a tough job but someones gotta do it ;-)
