Wow - whoever said you cant have it all has obviously never been to South Beach, Miami. Every morning Im woken up by green/yellow and red parakeets kawwing outside the window. Everything you need from a city is ten metres behind you on Collins Ave and Washington Ave and one of the most beautiful beaches in the world is just a few feet in front.
Miami really is all about beauty and excess. The Latin influence here is huge and has a say in everything from the Art Deco style buildings to the food, drinks and fashion. The water is an aquamarine tinted crystal colour out to around 20 m where it darkens. Hence, it was easy to spot the 6ft shark which was prowling swimmers yesterday, me included. Needless to say we bathers beat a hasty retreat!!
The hostel is cheap and in a great location with plenty to do. Ive met some great people from all manner of location, background, education etc etc its a real mix here.
I spent last night on Ocean Drive appreciating the vibe you could only get here. Big beats from the big rimmed Hummers and screeching tyres from the millionair playboys in their Ferraris and Ducati's. It really is quite a sight.
I spent this morning on the Everglades which is a real sight to behold. I took an airboat trip which was fantastic and saw plenty of gators, unusual bird species. The gator farm had alligator wrestling and introduced us to a number of the residents including a skunk, burmese python and a pretty beastly scorpion (pictures to follow). I got to hold a 4ft alligator for a picture which was ace, they're ace.
Im gutted to say its my last day here tomorrow. On Wed I fly to memphis for some Southern style living where I'll be taking in the country and Western vibes in both Memphis and Nashville. Im staying in a log cabin just behind Graceland, how funny! Ill have to pop in and see the King's living room just for the pure cheese factor - cant wait!
After mixing with the glitz of Miami I really am loving this place and am sure I'll be back here at some point in the future. As holiday destinations go, you'd be hard pushed to beat this place!
Onwards...

Isn't it amazing? I only got to see a little bit of Miami but def would go back. The beach is stunning and a warm ocean is luxurious. I was amazed by how quickly the water gets deep and sounds stupid by didn't like to step out too far, duh nuh, duh nuh...if you know what I mean! Enjoying your logs mate, clean and informative, you've changed already since leaving x
