About me
"Some birds aren't meant to be caged, their feathers are just too bright"About my trip
I always did like a challenge, and after 4 years of blood sweat and tears gaining my Doctorate I thought it was time for a more enjoyable one....so.... in the last week of April 2008 Im off to travel around the world for 11 months.
First stop is across the pond - the USA. Ill be arriving in New York and travelling by bus and AMTRAK from coast to coast, eventually hitting L.A. I've got all sorts planned along the way, everything from a Navajo led horseback trail through Monument Valley to hiring a 350bhp Mustang GT-H for a 10 day road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway with my two good friends Pete and Rob. Four months in the USA is nowhere near long enough to explore its full reaches but I hope too see as much as possible and spend some serious time in the breathtaking National Parks. Grizzly spotting by horseback in Yellowstone is a must!
Next its time to wax the board....Hawaii. No plans here, just see where the wind and waves take me.
After that its time for paradise, a month in Fiji which includes 12 days of island hopping on a catamaran through the Yasawa islands. Hoping to get some dive experience here and see some of the fantastic marine life.
By the end of October I'll be in Australia. Heading from Sydney up to Cairns taking in the amazing coastline will be something really special. Seeing some giant Saltwater Crocs and some serious snakes are definately on the list. Im hoping to get up close (but not too close) to some of Australia's fascinating venomous predators. I've planned plenty of spare time here to enjoy the amazing coastline, get some surfing in and chill with the locals.
Finally, my personal favourite, its Africa. I'll be flying into Cape Town and first thing on the list is a cage dive with Great White Sharks. Its a lifetime ambition to see these amazing creatures close up, im totally in awe of them. I'll then be overlanding through South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania and Kenya with a whole host of activities en route.
The grand finale, budget permitting, is a Kilimanjaro climb. I'm hoping to take one of the rarer and more challenging routes to the summit of this amazing mountain. Stay tuned.
