When we arrived in Bali, I was secretly hoping that we'd do nothing, no plans, no rushing around trying to fit in all kinds of sights, just lazing around on the beach. I've managed 2 weeks and now I'm bored! We've left the Gili's (and the quickest internet i've used in Indonesia) and have come to Lombok, a ghost town called Senggigi. Its so strange and we've been to loads of places like this on our trip, there are massive hotels, a dozen nightclubs (big ones) loads of restaurants, but nobody here. At all. Perhpas its because its rainy season - which could also explain why I'm not enjoying lying on the beach so much...... but I can't ever imagine these places being busy which seems a shame. So, in response to my boredom (and everyone elses, seems I wasn't the only one who was getting a bit fed up) the plan for the next 10days is as follows, buses & boats galore, Komodo dragons, hill tribes & volcanoes. I will be excersing caution on Komodo (or Rinca - according to Lonley Planets travel forum this is a better place to see Komodo dragons, although I think we should call them Rinca Dragons) as I have just read a link to a newspaper article about a 9yr old boy who was eaten by a K.Dragon whilst defecating behind a tree.......I'm not sure if it was before, after or during. But I think both the boy & the dragon had issues. Not sure how much internet we'll be near either, but the plan so far if to take an internal flight from Maumere to Denpasar on the 17th, getting us ready for our flight on to Melbourne on the 19th.
I cant wait to get to Australia, we'll go separate ways when we get to Melbourne, Jen & Clare are going to go from Melbourne to Cairns slowly over 4 months. Lisa & I are going to drive to Sydney, then spend 5 weeks travelling up to Cairns, from here Lisa flies back to Sydney to meet her boyfriend and I think I'm going to work around Cairns for about 6 weeks, save some money and then go visiting people - this is their warning so I hope they are reading. It'll be good to leave this part of Indonesia, the street vendors are much harder to tolerate here, more so than anywhere else we've been. They never give up and there are hundreds of them everywhere, I can't imagine they sell many of the revolting necklaces that they all seem to carry either. I'm hoping that our last 2 weeks here take us away from that (although I know there'll be bloody hundreds on the way to Komodo)
Facts:
Even though you are quite happily walking, you WILL be offered transport every 10 steps. Unless you are exhausted and feel shit, then you'll have to walk. Please & Thankyou are neccesary. I don't know why some people never use them.
Thorntree & Gumtree are different. So are snowboards & wakeboards.
Friends aren't there to be patronised or intentionally offended. If you feel the need to do this, particularly on a daily basis. You probably shouldn't be friends.
I can't wait to get to Australia.
