Weekend in Kovalam

I've spent the weekend in Kovalam beach with about 30 other volunteers (!) and also Pabbu and Pandy from TPA.

Yesterday it was actually really cloudy and it rained!!! It was awesome though, I think it made it more fun! It was really really hot so we still swam for hours and hours. I've been told that I'm the most hardcore beacher though because I'm always in the water! The beach is really nice but my Lonely Planet guide book is right: 'Female swimmers should be conscious of the large groups of Indian men parading the beaches, hoping to catch a glimpse of female flesh...' Yup! I rented a body board and went out to where the big waves were in the hope that I could ride them...very unsuccessful! However, I met a Japanese surfer out there who taught me a bit what NOT to do! He also helped by waiting for the wave with me and pushing my board at the right time (so that I wouldn't get trapped when the wave breaks). A bikini was definitely not the best thing to wear as I found out when my bottoms where round my knees...could have been a lot worse though! We then went for lunch all together and I tried Pakkota (which is typical from southern India). A group of us went for a walk just before sunset and climbed up onto some big rocks in between the two beaches in Kovalam
In the evening we went out for a meal and then a few cocktails in a Bar practically on the sand!

This morning was amazing! A group of us decided to get up at 5:30am to go for a swim!! It was so lovely at that time of the morning, even the water was warm! And we watched the sunrise...Afterwards we played frisbee on the beach and helped the fishermen pull their huge net out of the sea...it was 2000m out! We've just had breakfast but it feels more like lunch - we've been up for so long!
