Another exciting couple of days!!! Yesterday was just unbelievable - I got to watch 4 surgeries! In the morning I observed a tonsillectomy and the removal of some little bump things on someone's bum, but in the evening things got gory...a woman came in with tumours on each of her ovaries.
She looked pregnant though, I cannot believe how gigantic they were, about the size of my head put together...as the surgeon was cutting them out, he asked me to come closer to take a better look, he suddenly tugged a bit to hard and we all got sprayed with ovarian tumour fluid - ew!!! After surgery, I was then in the process of removing my mask when the surgeon said that there was an other op waiting to take place! A man had a perforated duodenum...
The excitement of the day didn't end there. I had to make my way to Pondicherry, 300km away on a night train...alone! I made my way to the station on a cycle rickshaw - the first time I'd tried it and was very wobbly! When the train arrived at the station, I realised I was miles away from my coach as I was in number 3, so I sprinted up the platform in a bit of a flap, trying not to knock small children over as best as I could. Managed to get on my carriage, phew. Then I found my bed, which was already occupied by a woman. Apologetically I explained that it was my seat and got my ticket out. The men sitting nearby were also investigating the double booking...eventually they deduced that I was on the wrong train. They could have told me before, this one was already moving...ARGH!!!!!!!!!! Not a good start. I ended up having to get off at the next station, which happened to be an hour away and swap trains...well I'm in Pondicherry now so I didn't do too badly for a first attempt did I?!
When I got here I had an apple filled croissant for breakfast, and some coffee to perk me up after a bit of a disrupted-trainie-old-bumpy night. I then met up with four other girls, Jess, Myrthe, Alice and Harriet who were already here. We went to visit the Sri Aurobindo handmade Paper Factory (thought of you Dad
We then did a heritage Walk, where you pass through the Government Square, Bharathi Park, Notre Dame de Anges, and we also managed to incorporate plenty of earring shops on the way! We had lunch in a lovely restaurant where I had a spinach and cheese filled crepe! Mmm cheese. I miss it so much - I wish it could be posted here so much! After lunch, we dashed from shade to shade in order to have a look around the Botanical Gardens.
Was lovely and cool in there so we sat for quite a while! Myrthe, Harriet and Alice had to catch their train so Jess and I made our way back into the centre in order to visit the famous Sri Aurobindo Ashram. It was beautifully surrounded by thousands of flowers and had the most breathtaking atmosphere of peace and community, I can't really describe it. We then went to see the Manakula Vinayagar Temple where there was a really cute elephant outside! And here we are now, in a lovely and air conditioned internet cafe!

V busy here, I have essays and tests and applications for a summer school and am running for the student rep council - arg!
