Okay, not for a few more hours, but it is finally here, we are off to Africa. The suitcases are packed; cameras, binoculars, and of course, the requested Starbucks coffee and See's chocolates.
I did wonder, am I really ready for this adventure, and then my Mom reminded me I have been preparing for this trip since I was in high school living in Alaska. That summer spent camping in with primitive facilities guarding myself against the swarms of mosquitoes the size of small jets, should prepare me for camping in Namibia. She also reminded me of all the times we watched documentaries of the Serengeti on public television when the network TV shoes didn’t make the flight north. Who knew then that all that forced viewing would some day lead to a trip to Africa.
Others that have traveled to Africa have said it was the one trip that changed their lives. I wonder how it will change mine. Hopefully I return with a greater appreciation of the world I live in.
