Greece
Train journey was an absolute nightmare! If Lori thought Gideon was funny we met some joke Turkish people on the train called Chalglu and Dominikska! We ended up sleeping with them on a cold Train Platform in Thessaloniki - an absolute hole... On leaving the station to go and buy a sandwich, we were presented with a scene of squalor, a bunch of strip clubs and some "women of the night." I went back to the station but I'm not sure where Joe went for 45mins hmm? In order to get to Athens we had to stand in a train which was full however, we managed to get some seats in the cafe car where we met our nemesis! - Some random cafe worker kept waiting for us to fall asleep and then rapping us over the end calling "NO SLEEP' "NO SLEEP!" The look on her face was sickening as it was obviously the most fun she has had in years. I guess we can find solace in the fact she works in a cafe train in Thessaloniki, the worst city in the world! Athens wasnt as good a city as Istanbul, but still fun! The Acropolis is over-rated and after walking up to the top of that hill in 40 degree heat, we were expecting more than a bunch of broken rocks held up by scaffolding! However, we took the obligatory photos and then went and bought some Gyros - kebabs which were absolutely delicious! At night we went for a meal with some girls from Harvard which was fun, and then made friends with the Greek Female version of Lori who worked in an ice cream parlour. Whilst she gave us free ice cream and slush puppies she repeatedly told us she was going to "cut us" and that she wanted us "dead!' Needless to say, she was only joking, and we spent a fun night listening to her sarcastic ramblings about the many races of the world! One day is probably enough to see Athens so we spent the next 24 hours shopping, and playing a card game called tarot with some french-canadians - good stuff
Pink Palace
This place is reputedly a 24 hour party, and if you google it, the first hit is a warning from the embassy about the sexual inappropriate antics of its proprietor "Dr George," (We later found out he's not actually a doctor but likes to claim he is a gynacologist) with a letter from a previous guest claiming (I quote,) "Dr George likes to give male travellers sweets in return for a feel of their genitals!!" Despite this thrilling description, the place isn't quite as bad as it sounds. We unfortunately never met Dr George, but instead spent a nice day on the beach surveying the beautiful scenery, Corfu is really lovely, and then went out in the evening with some people we met on the Bus! We're out of here in a few hours time, and then to Italy, where we can finally put our feet up, wash our clothes and get some proper food! Soon we will have to start turning our underwear inside out to increase its wearability! Will update in Rome when we begin the "Three Musketeers" stage of our trip as Norfolk joins us! Peace out my homies x
