Two days ago, something fell from the sky. We weren´t sure what it was because we hadn´t see it for awhile. Believe it or not, it was rain. Well more like a very, very, very light drizzle and it only rained for about an hour and it got us talking to each other and asking each other "when did we last see this nuisence from the sky?". We worked out we have had one hour of drizzle, at night, in the last 31 days. Ed went to bed that night thinking how he quite likes El Nino and he left all the lights on, all the heaters on, turned the dryer on with no clothes in it, and left his car engine running all night with the airconditioning on just so he could give his little contribution to global warming. We think if everyone works together, Ed and Deb will always have good weather on their holidays.
As we walk around Spain we have noticed one thing. Yes we all know the chicas are hot but there is something not quite right about the men. They have all got 70´s style mullets!! And they have all got filthy hot girlfriends. No where in the world is the mullet in fashion anymore but it is in Spain. We met an American couple, Phil and Kris and we managed to convince Phil to get a mullet cut. We named this "Haircut Day Espania". We went into a salon that outdid Toni & Guy. Phil balked at the door and said No it´s too expensive, Ed said No these European men love to spend money and look good, they don´t go to some tacky barber like we do at home. Anyway we dragged him in, he paid only 12Euro for a haircut and out walked Haircut Playboy Espania. Ed is waiting to find out if he has to make a court appearance in a few weeks in Sydney, and if not, he is too going to embrace the mullet look. With his mullet and his very average Spanish, and with his goodlooking chicas Debbie, he will totally blend in with the locals. We are so proud of our intermigration into the Spanish culture and we know that they will never think we are from England again. Phil and Ed hope one day that we will export this mullet to our homelands and start a new trend. But first of all we need your help first, the big question is...how short should Ed go at the sides for his mullet, and how long should he leave the top. We are thinking full length top and number three on the sides. Let the voting begin - the Comments box below awaits your replies!
We moved out of the Orange House last night into a swanky little hotel in Benidorm. It was only 18 Euros per person including breakkie and we are basically right on the Med and don´t worry, you are not missing anything as we have not seen a beach come close to what we have back home. All these Brits keep telling us about surfing back in England and we have got Canadians telling us about surfing in Canada and our reply is always the same "you don´t have beaches, surfing is the way of life, it´s not about wearing a 10mm wetsuit, it is about walking down in your boardies barefoot to the beach and surfing while you´re on the dole." Anyway back to the hotel, we couldn´t believe the standard of hotel that you got for the price. We thought it was going to be alot more expensive, around 80Euros. We sat down and waited in the lobby for about an hour for the manager to get a key cut for our room. We amused ourselves with mindless conversation while we were waiting, and we came to the conclusion that these Spaniards are never in a hurry and life just rolls on. Due to the late hour that we arrived, our mind also worked in overdrive abit. While we were waiting we started thinking of reasons why it was taking so long and then when we saw a lady in skimpy clothes walk out of the lobby smiling at us, we assumed that she was a hooker and they were just cleaning our room after the business and we had this whole story surrounding the circumstances and managed to convince ourselves this was so true we nearly did a runner. As it turned out, we got this entirely wrong, it was just an issue with the key, the room was perfectly savoury and this morning when we got down to our brekkie (which incidently was included in the above price) we see our hooker friend waitressing the tables. Oops! Ed said "I think we got this wrong, the poor lady just works here" but Deb still not 100% convinced said "this could just be her day job!"
We are heading about half an hour north of Benidorm today and will go climbing up there. In a few days time we are going to Madrid to hopefully meet up with our Argentinian friend Mario (who we met in Thailand) before coming back for another week or so to the coast. For those who don´t know, we are coming back to Australia for a few weeks and then heading back to Spain. We will try to catch up with everyone when we get back, however it is a flying visit so catchups will have to be quick.
Hasta Luego Amigos! (that is "asta" because as we found out in our Spanish lessons, the H is always silent - Ed and Deb are slowly becoming bilingual)
