Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.
This was meant to be the Subject Title of this post, however it was too long and wouldnt' fit.
No...this is not a drunken typo. This is the spelling of the longest place name in Wales. If you would like to hear how it's pronouced, go to our videos and you will see my cousin Mercedes reading it out. Even listening to her say it we still cant' repeat past the first letter!
We visited Wales this weekend and had a lovely time. We drove down after work on Friday towards South Wales where Deb's rellies live. It takes about 5 hours from Halifax but unfortunately we got stuck behind a big traffic accident and with no way to go forwards or backwards we just switched the car off and waited for an hour until it was cleared. This, combined with getting abit lost trying to find our campsite made for a very long day. We ended up getting into the campground at 11:30pm but the owner was fabulous and invited us to join their campfire and gave us a couple of very welcome beers. The campsite was just in one of the fields on her farm and it was a lovely setting with views of the Brecon Beacons along with little pony's and dogs and other farm animals. We sat up until about 2:30am chatting to them and then hit the sack.
We had a fairly leisurly morning and then drove around the corner to Deb's relatives for lunch. Deb had just visited a few weeks ago, but it was very nice to see them again and even though we were there a few hours it didn't seem long enough to catch up.
That afternoon we set off on our drive up to the North of Wales. We drove through the Brecon Beacons and up the middle of Wales for about 4 hours. The scenery was magnificent, the whole country seemed like one big national park with mountains and lakes and fields. Some of the villages we went through were gorgeous, made from Welsh slate and so quaint looking. We stopped overnight in another campsite surrounded by squealing kids and noisy families. We got eaten alive by midgies too but we didn't complain as it was in a big touristy area yet they charged a pittance for us to camp so we were happy.
Today we mosied around the local village for an hour or so before driving up through the Llanberis Pass which is a mountain pass between Mt Snowdon and a few others. We have been here a few years ago and loved the climbing so we wanted to go back. Last time it was drizzling and miserable but today the weather was fabulous so we were excited about spending abit of time there. However we didn't anticipate there was a running race up Mt Snowdon today so it was packed. We drove through and turned round and drove back again looking for somewhere to pull up and park but no luck so we gave up and went a different way instead. We eventually ended up back on the coast in a town called Llandudno. Again, we have been here before a few years ago and really enjoyed it so we were looking forward to going back. We spent a few hours bouldering on the seaside cliffs and then headed home this evening.
