San Antonio, TX

March 15, 2007 - San Antonio, Texas, United States

We found 3 great teatres in San Antonio. Two of them are still standing. On in on the River Walk and the other is the Sunken Theatre. The third that is no longer there is at the San Jose Mission. It was in such disrepair that they took it down.

The San Jose Mission was the first place we visited. It was an old Spanish Mission with a vast history. Here is a link to that history. Here are the pictures of the space. The amphitheatre was torn down years ago because it was in such bad disrepair. There is just an open field left in it's space.

On the River Walk in downtown San Antonio is the Arneson River Theatre. It is a great example of incorporating a theatre into a whole downtown setting.

The last space we visited was the Sunken Garden Theatre. This was a large theatre that was in various states of disrepair.  It looks as if there is still events that happen here, though half of the seats are missing. There is flooding in  lower levels. Doors were borded up. However, there is an active scene shop. Some new equipment.  The natural backdrop was one of the most impressive that I had seen.
