Driving from Florence!

April 30, 2008 - Pisa, Italy

Well....Two days later since our last posting, here we are in Greve in Chianti.... and finally found an Internet access point with a fast computer...unfortunately we will not be able to download our recent pictures today :(

Our last day in Florence was the toughest one... we were tired and the Jet lag was finlly setting in.  We still managed to see the Piazza Signoria, Pazzo Sforzi (built in the 1400th or close enough) and enjoy a cold white wine at a little outdoor market.

Yesterday we drove from Florence to our Bed and Breakfast in Greve in Chianti ( an old vineyard and country house) ...despite the rain, it was a beautiful drive. We stopped for lunch at a little pizzaria which was similar to a Canadian truck stop. Oh yes....Luigi's Italian driving was, as usual, very Italian (and in his words, perfect).  Luigi's commentL Nancy agreed to put a blindfold on and duct tape her mouth...)

We can't wait to post pictures of the Chianti countryside...there are lush, green rolling hills with lots of vineyards and olive groves with interspersed old castles and country houses from the 13-1500.  In fact, we have a view of the castle where Mona Lisa is believed to have lived. I think we are sleeping in what used to be the servent's country house....although it is beautiful.

We are on our way to Pisa airport to pick up Anne and Erik who are flying here from Amsterdam to spend a week with us. We are relying on the trusty GPS to get us there...it finally figured out that we are in Italy and not Florence, Florida! (or is it US that finally figured out how to use it!)

Watch for the next update, hopefully we will be able to post some pictures.

Thanks for the call, although alittle short it was nice to hear from you. Miss you and wish we were there.

Love, Christine

Enjoying reading your journal and seeing the photos - but would dearly love to be there! Luigi, I like that photo of you with the tray of drinks ... is it so expensive that you had to take a side job as a waiter to pay for your meals? Looks good on you! Glad to hear you have Italian-ized your GPS.
