About me

"Nicho" for most of my friends, I am 34 at the beginning of this trip. Now, guess my nationality: I am proud, I like to complain, I like food (melted cheese is No1), I barely take showers, and I sing love songs. Easy...

I have studied aerospace engineering in France and in Australia, and worked in the aviation industry for more than 10 years, in France, in the US, and more recently in Geneva, Switzerland.

As you can imagine, I love travelling. With friends or by myself. Major trips in the past includes: Australia, the US, Canada, New-Zealand, Chile, Morocco, Sweden, Norway...

I am a lot into sports in general (my "major" being tennis), and in particular anything related to nature, mountains, outdoors activities (hiking, off-piste skiing, climbing...). My old mate Sebito regularly tries to get me into those crazy thrilling activities such as kitesurfing, snowkiting and speedriding, although I am much more comfortable on a tennis court, or on fat skis with 1m deep fresh and unspoiled powder!

Last but not least, music has always been an important part of my life, as a passionate listener, but also as a guitar player and (amateur) singer.

For the private part of my life, this blog will not be enough!...

About my trip

Taking one year off to travel has always been in my mind since I started working 11 years ago. A few months ago I felt this was finally the right time to live this dream, personnally, professionally and... financially.

I did not want to go "roung the globe" like most people do, as I wanted to take my time to explore places, and get to know people a little bit more than usual, including locals. And if everything lines up, I would be more than happy to settle for a while, and help people out by participating to a volunteering or social program.

So yes, I picked Latin America, which is quite large a place already! First to learn spanish, and second because I feel a lot of attraction for those beautiful and diverse landscapes, for the culture (as I would define myself as Latin as well), and for the history of this continent and its people.

I must admit that 2 strong memories of my childhood have a big part in this decision: the comic books "Tintin chez les Picaros" and "L'Oreille Cassée" by Hergé, and the cartoon on TV "Les Mystérieuses Cités d'Or". Will I get to see in real those incas' pyramids, the Machu Pichu, the Grand Condor, the amazon river, the tropical forests and its big bugs, those volcanoes touching the sky above the andean high lands? Will I get to discover the Golden Cities? Will I get kidnapped by some Picaros-like bandilleros in the middle of the forest (hope not, don't worry)? Will I be able to get the sun out whenever I want to, just by calling Him? Will I finally meet Zia... as most of my friends hope? ;-)

A few weeks in October to close everything back home (Geneva, Annecy, Toulouse...), to say goodbye to friends and family, to spend some precious time with the ones who really count, to fill my 70L backpack, and... off I go!

My philosophy for this trip?

Note: this will be the only english part of this blog, as I feel I can express better what I see and what I feel in french... Sorry mates! But I would be more than happy to detail some bits of my trip in english, by email, for those who want to. And of course, I hope pictures will speak by themselves...
