After a bit of investigation I managed to blag Nick and I a hire car for 15 days for a grand total of AUD$0. All we had to pay for was the fuel we used. We thought we would make trhe most of this oppertunity by doing a mamoth road trip around the east of Australia. We headed off from Sydney on the 10th heading towards Melbourne. Our first night was spent at Jervis Bay where we set up a tent at a campsite for which we paid $30 then both ended up sleeping in the car. Stupid maybe but it turned out to be cheaper in the long run, we had found a fool proof way of spending no money on accomodation.
We then headed down to Wilsons Promontery through extreme heats and a huge bush fire which turned the sky to an orangey/purpley/ grey for hours. When we got there we saw an awesome sunset while we ate diner on the rocks (very romantic) as well as a wealth of Ozzy wildlife including a wombat, loads of roos and wallabies.
We then carried on to Philip Island just outside of Melbourne where we went and had a search for a few penguins in there burrows, we saw a few but they did a very god job of avoiding us.
I didnt have the best experience in Melbourne, I developed a bit of a man flu the first couple of days I was there and ended up coughing and splutering the whole rest of the time, Nick did a good job of putting up with me and not catching what I had. The heat was unbelievable and reached a maximum of 44 deg while we were there. I managed to drag myself to a day of tennis qualifiers though where, i saw the 2 and 3 seeds (then) practicing.
After melbourne we then set of up to Dubbo and Beyond to the Warrambungle national park where we did a beautiful walk called "The Grand High Tops". I couldnt belive how many kangaroos there were here. At one point on the walk I left Nick sunning himself while I went and explored a bit and when I came back I suggested he move from where he was lying because he seemed to be geting very cosy with a nice little brown snake, suffice to say he moved quickly.
Leaving the park we shared a near death experience with a stupid ostrich which couldnt decide if it wanted to cross or not until the last second when Nick came face to face with it with only a few centimetres and a pane of glass between them.
Before we got to Brisbane we made a quick overnight stop at Tamworth where there was a country music festival, we were having a pleasant night sitting in the caravan park drinking beers and listening to locals sing there favourite county tunes, that was until we the two siting next to us who we though were gandfather and grandaughter, started geting a bit too casy for our liking exchanged a few kises and then decided they wanted to take in back to their caravan!! eeerrrgh
On to Brissy!!!
