Journey into the Land of Smiles

February 15, 2007 - Krabi, Thailand

After regrettably leaving the Perhentian Islands I headed off with Matt and Mary north into Thailand, again no trouble at the border, smooth sailing so far.

We stopped in Hat Yai for the night in the dingiest hostel I have ever seen, it was like something out of a horror movie, but it cost me 80bhat so i was happy. The next day I left them and headed for Krabi and the Phi Phi Islands ("The Beach"). It was a bit of a culture shock coming from a quiet little island to being squashed onto a boat and ferried across to what is now a tourist mecca. I decided quite quicly that I wouldnt be able to relax here so I boked myself on an Advanced Open Water course and spent a couple of days back out at sea. This was a great plan, I got to do a night dive, a wreck dive, a deep dive and I also got to swim with a Leopard Shark and Guitar Shark, once I completed my course I spent a day rockclimbing (again geting away from the masses), and then made a quick decision to head off the island and on to my next destiantion.

11 dives under my belt, time to go inland.
